David Northberry
David Northberry is the pen name of David Collins. David spent his working life with Greater Manchester Police, as a detective, a dog handler and a community constable. He now writes from a garden shed in Heywood, Lancashire, about the places he knows and the people history forgot.
While researching his ghost stories, he keeps finding real events that deserve telling in their own right. The first is the prisoner of war who died saving a child from the River Irwell at Burrs, the true story that led to the Jenny Greenteeth tale in Old Stones and Dark Waters. Stories like this go into The Northberry Notebook, a newsletter and podcast about forgotten history from the north of England.
