About Beaker Books

Beaker is an old nickname. It belongs to David Collins, and it seemed the right name for a small press run from a garden shed in Heywood, Lancashire. Beaker Books publishes stories rooted in the north of England: its moors and mill towns, its rivers and reservoirs, and the people history forgot to write down. Many of the places in our books are real. You can read about them in the evening and walk to them the next morning.

How We Work

Printed on Demand

Every copy is printed in the UK when it's ordered, so nothing sits in a warehouse and nothing is pulped. Ebooks are available on Kindle.

First Readers

Before each book goes to print, a small group of readers sees it first. They're thanked by name in the first edition and receive a signed copy.

For the Trade

All our titles are available to bookshops, libraries and heritage sites. Visit our Trade & Libraries page or email hello@beakerbooks.com.
